In the context of scientific research and to raise awareness amongst the medical practitioners a team of researching Doctors at the College of Dentistry at Ajman University of Science & Technology conducted a regional study on antibiotic prescription being practiced currently. It was published in the British Journal of Pharmaceutical Research.

Dr. Kamis Gabalah, Dr. Adel A. Bahmani, Dr. Anas Salami and Dr. Nageb A. M. Hasan from the Department of Oral and Maxilofacial Surgery, Department of Clinical Dentistry and Department of Clinical Pharmacy, at College of Dentistry AUST all jointly contributed to the research bringing forth their specialization.

Many guidelines are set up to rationalize the use of antibiotics and have been published and many surveys have been carried out to evaluate antibiotic prescription knowledge and attitude among dentists. This study was conducted in some middle eastern countries to assess the pattern of antibiotic prescribing and evaluate the knowledge and attitude of dental practitioners to determine if there is a rationality in prescribing antibiotics and if it is in accordance with ideal practice and recent guidelines or not.

This study has concluded several recommendations, the most important of the need to reduce the prescription of non-medically justified use of antibiotics, thereby avoiding complications, and thus contributing to the reduction of microbial resistance to antibiotics. The study called for the importance of holding the sessions of continuing medical education in this area, to raise the performance level of dentists towards patients in order to ensure a safe and advanced health care and will contribute to the achievement of optimal consumption possibilities in the health sector .
