AU Now Offers MSc in Endodontics

Ajman University (AU), all set to meet the needs of local, regional and global labor markets, has come up with an all new Master of Science in Endodontics program (MSc Endo).The endodontic program, assumed by the College of Dentistry, has received initial accreditation from the Commission for Academic Accreditation of the Ministry of Education of the United Arab Emirates.

Ajman University Chancellor Dr. Karim Seghir said the program is meant to improve the employability of AU graduates and enrich the labour market with competent specialists in Endodontics.

“The program, involving a normal intake of four residents each year, is targeting qualified local and international dentists who wish to develop their skills and knowledge.”

Prof. Salem Abu Fanas, Dean, College of Dentistry, said hopeful students will eventually be eligible to take the specialty fellowship examinations of the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland (FFDRCSI–Endodontics).

“The full time course extends over three academic years and students need to complete all units of study outlined for each semester, while the deadline for application in the program is September 1st, 2019.”

“The 70-credit hour course spans a structured lecture/seminar series, skills simulation course, diagnostic clinics, treatment plan sessions, clinical treatment of patients, case presentation and a research project leading to a thesis.”

The Master of Science in Endodontics is aimed to prepare and provide highly qualified specialists in endodontics capable of providing a high level of care to patients with complex endodontic needs, Prof Abu Fanas underlined.

“The program, covering all aspects of the endodontics specialty, focuses on contemporary materials and advanced clinical skills, and meets the academic rigor and expectations of a clinical specialty program.”

Students have to complete minimum 200 clinical cases with a variety of clinical complexity, including 10 surgical endodontic cases, he elaborated.

“Applicants can explore the option of applying for Sponsored Graduate Teaching Assistant (SGTA) through the University’s Deanship of Graduate Studies and Research.”

Successful graduates will have a wide range of career opportunities, including public and private healthcare facilities, armed forces services, academics, research facilities, as well as national and international dental organizations, manufacturers and societies.”

They can also continue with further higher education (specialty fellowships, doctorate (PhD) in the field of Endodontics, he said. “Those who prefer to practice in UAE will be able to do so provided they pass the UAE Licensing Exams.”
